BMW i3

Launched internationally in 2013, the i3 was a masterstroke in the hybridvehicle range. Packed with futuristic features, the i3 is sure to make heads turn once it hits the streets in India. The frame is all aluminium, which BMW has named the drive module. The life module, which houses the passengers, has been named the life module and is made of carbon fibre. The i3 gets a 160bhp electric motor with a 96 cell, Li-ion battery pack. When fully charged, the i3 can run for 160 km. The hybrid version gets a 650cc, 34bhp petrol engine, which, when combined with the electric motor, gives a range of about 300 km.

XUV 500 Hybrid

First showcased in 2014 at the Greater Noida Auto Expo, the XUV 500 hybrid is expected to be launched this year. Though Mahindra hasn’t revealed exact specifications, it is set to have features such as the permanent magnet synchronous motor and the lithium-ion battery. It is also expected to be 18 per cent more efficient than the diesel model, equipped with a regenerative braking tech, which will charge the SUV’s batteries when the brakes are applied.
